Welcome to the SA Publication Forum

The SA Publication Forum is committed to improving and promoting corporate publications in South Africa. Through the forum, publication practitioners get together to network and share ideas. The main activities of the forum are the annual Corporate Publication Competition and training opportunities in the form of training courses, workshops and seminars.

Corporate Publication Competition 2010

Hip2B², external magazine of the Mark Shuttleworth’s BSquare Communications, produced by New Media Publishing was the overall winner in the SA Publication Forum’s Corporate Publication Competition 2010.

The runner-up was Santam’s staff magazine, essence, with Anglo American’s A Magazine, published by Words’Worth Publishing in the third place.  In fourth place was Contact, a staff newspaper of the City of Cape Town and Mercedes, also published by New Media Publishing, achieved fifth place. Peter Maher, industrial editor of the University of the Witwatersrand was named Editor of the Year.

The best internal newsletter for 2010 was InSite, Kumba Iron Ore’s publication, entered by Words’Worth Publishing. They also produced the winning annual report for the National Research Foundation, as well as the best corporate website, Small Capital. iMali’Yam, of Metropolitan Retail was named the best external newsletter. The award for the best external magazine with a smaller budget went to Scenario, of Senwes, produced by Infoworks Media Publishing.

The City of Cape Town excelled, as in previous years, winning both the best newspaper category with Contact, as well as the best one-off publication with Cape Town 2010 Host City Communication.

New Media Publishing also won the award for the best electronic publication, Page, produced for Media 24. Kumba Iron Ore won the award for the best corporate DVD, while Standard Bank walked away with first place for the best DVD newsletter.

This year in the region of 130 publications were entered and the judges felt that the standard was higher than ever.
