Mitzi du Plessis manages Malachite Marketing & Media, a company that specialises in copywriting, media relations, publicity, events management, branding and profiling. She has extensive experience in writing for science, engineering & technology; wildlife; IT; mining; manufacturing; and tourism, having worked for big organisations and corporates in all these sectors. Awards include PRISA Prism Awards for two consecutive years (2004 and 2005) - for event management and media relations respectively, PRISA Chairmanís Award (2004), and the bronze medal in the National Editor of the Year Competition run by the Southern African Association of Industrial Editors (1995). She has presented on a wide range of marketing communication topics at national and international conferences, and mentoring young communication professionals is one of her passions. Large projects are her fortÈ, such as the international publicity campaign her company ran for the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT). Her qualifications include an honours degree in applied linguistics and a postgraduate diploma in marketing management. Her love of nature, travel, adventure and photography has led her to explore remote islands in the Indian Ocean, rainforests in Borneo, deserts in the United Arabian Emirates and mountain ranges in Africa.
